As the quality improvement organization (QIO) for Montana, Wyoming, Hawaii and Alaska, Mountain-Pacific is committed to improving the lives of people with Medicare, not only by ensuring good medical care but also by serving seniors as an advocate and information resource. We review quality-of-care complaints from seniors or their representatives regarding care they have received under Medicare. These patients have the right to care that is necessary, reasonable and consistent with professionally accepted standards of quality. We also protect beneficiaries by expeditiously reviewing provider-issued notices of noncoverage. Medicare patients have the right to necessary medical care and to be fully informed about decisions affecting their Medicare coverage as well as their right to appeal a provider’s decision.
